Boating Etiquette Part 2: A few more boating tips for beginners

Last week we got you all schooled up on the basics of being a boater…but we left a few things off the list. Following are a few more boating tips for beginners that will help you be a more knowledgeable and enjoy the overall experience to its fullest potential. Happy Boating times are in your future.

Timeliness is more important than ever! – Being on time is a challenge for some us…but it’s important when you have a scheduled boat charter  for a lot of reasons; some of which include: your Captain’s will be waiting for you; you might a few items to store before heading out and navigating the marina might take some additional time away from the most important thing – having fun out on the water!

Details always matter! Be sure to make note of the boat location including dock number or name, the name the name of the marina and how to get there as well as contact details for your skipper and any related parking information.

Don’t forget to take precaution for medical issues! If you have a medical condition let you captain before leaving the dock. Also remember to bring any emergency medications onboard for the boating trip; better to be safe than sorry.

Use your head when it comes to the head!  (The head is the restroom; in case you didn’t already get that!) Restrooms on boats are different than the ones at home and all boats function a little differently and most are a bit finicky…Best thing to do? Just ask owner or captain.

Lifejackets or PFD’s (Personal Flotation Device) are always present! There will be a lifejacket for you on the boat so you don’t have to bring your own. You are welcome to bring your own lifejacket to wear just make sure it is marked with your name and properly stored on the boat.

Now for the most important tip…power down, relax and enjoy your boating adventure. Don’t know the first thing about boating? You can still get in the mix. Chartering a boat equipped with a captain with Boatsetter.com lets anyone enjoy boating! No ownership needed. No experience required.
